Mark Gionfriddo, a celebrated Holyoke musician and longtime Mount Holyoke College faculty member, will take the stage at Bombyx in Florence on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

He will be joined by Easthampton’s accomplished singer Nikki Gorts and a dynamic five-piece band for “It’s The Wildest!”, an energetic tribute to the music of jazz legends Louis Prima and Keely Smith.

The group brings the vibrant sound of 1950s Las Vegas lounges to western Massachusetts, performing favorites like “Jump, Jive ‘N Wail” and “That Old Black Magic.”

This show follows a sold-out debut at Bombyx last fall that drew rave audience reviews for its passion and period arrangements.

Gionfriddo’s roots in regional music and Gorts’ theater background promise a night of swinging classics and fresh local talent.

Tickets range from $15 to $25.

Old photographs have a unique power to preserve Greenfield’s stories, freezing moments that might otherwise slip away.

In April 1934, Arthur C. Haskell captured the revered Roger Newton House for the Historic American Buildings Survey, documenting its role in the town’s heritage.

The two-story clapboard home at Newton Place reflects Greenfield’s early days, when spiritual leaders like Reverend Newton were central figures and their modest Colonial homes symbolized integrity. By 1934, as America faced the Great Depression, the house became part of a vital New Deal effort to safeguard local architecture and history.

Though moved from its original location, its presence at Newton Place shows the community’s commitment to honoring its roots. This house endures as a testament to the faith, resilience, and tightly woven community life that shaped Franklin County.

Now preserved in the Library of Congress, the image stands as a gentle reminder: Greenfield’s past remains alive, waiting to be remembered.

Carly is a sweet, laid-back orange tabby and white Domestic Shorthair available at TJ O'Connor Adoption Center in Springfield.

At about seven years old, she’s looking for a calm, loving home alongside her best friend, Suki.

These girls arrived at the shelter when their owner lost housing, but they’ve settled in beautifully since March.

Suki enjoys exploring and playtime, while Carly prefers cozy naps.

Both are gentle, affectionate, and bring a soothing presence wherever they go.

They’re ideal for someone seeking two easygoing companions — especially in homes with teens or adults.

They’re open to meeting other cats, though their experience with dogs and young children is unknown.

Carly loves self-care and looks forward to regular vet visits and sunny window naps.

Word of the Week: Lilt

Definition: Noun. A light, rhythmic, and pleasantly upbeat rise and fall in someone’s voice or movement — like the cheerful bounce in a laugh, the playful sway in a melody, or the spring in your step on a beautiful morning. It’s that subtle musical quality that makes ordinary things feel happy and alive.

Example Sentence: Her voice had such a lovely lilt when she talked about her weekend adventure that everyone in the meeting couldn’t help but smile and feel a little lighter.

Origin: Comes from the old Scottish and Irish word “lilt,” originally describing a cheerful song or tune. It’s been dancing through English since the 1500s, bringing a sense of gentle joy wherever it goes.

This word has such a musical, feel-good energy — it almost makes you want to speak, walk, or even think with a little more lilt! 🎶

What’s something that’s been giving your week a nice lilt lately? 😊
