Thinking about solar panels in Western Mass? Homeowners across the region are eyeing solar for savings—but worries about leaky roofs after installation are on the rise.

While the vast majority of solar projects—about 95%—go smoothly and can even help protect your roof from weather and UV rays, a small percentage can lead to costly repairs.

Expert advice stresses the importance of choosing a licensed, insured installer with strong local experience and NABCEP certification.

It's smart to get a thorough roof inspection—especially if your roof is 15-20 years old—before any panels go up.

Ask about all warranties, check reviews and reputations, and compare quotes to protect your investment.

In Western Mass, a little planning goes a long way: Play it safe, research local experts, and schedule a roof check.

Meet Nala

My name is Nala.

I am a female, black and white Pit Bull Terrier mix.

The shelter staff think I am about 3 years old.

I have been at the shelter since Sep 30, 2025.

Nala is a sweet girl who’s looking for a calm home, experienced with positive reinforcement, where she can feel safe and loved. She can be shy at first, especially with new people, but with patience and positive reinforcement, she blossoms into an affectionate companion.

OTHER PETS: Nala may be able to live with other pets, but this will be determined on a case-by-case basis. A slow introduction is essential, and all potential animal companions must meet her first to ensure compatibility

OWNER EXPERIENCE: Nala will thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands positive reinforcement, canine body language and signals. She needs someone who can recognize signs of stress or discomfort and work with her using patience and positive reinforcement and help build her confidence.

KIDS: Because Nala can be nervous around new people and is sensitive to being handled, she would do best in a calm, predictable environment. She is not suited for homes with young children but may do well with respectful teenagers (15+) who understand and respect her boundaries. A meet-and-greet is required to ensure a good fit.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Nala enjoys daily walks and would make a great walking companion. She has a moderate energy level and benefits from regular exercise to keep her happy and healthy, as well as plenty of mental enrichment such as puzzles and games.

VETERINARY CARE: Nala requires routine veterinary care, including regular checkups, vaccinations, and flea/tick prevention to keep her in good health.

LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Nala build confidence and trust as she learns skills and tricks. She benefits from gentle, reward-based methods and consistent guidance.

GROOMING: Nala has minimal grooming needs. Regular brushing and basic hygiene maintenance (like nail trims and ear checks) will help keep her looking and feeling her best.

Word of the Week: Resplendent

Definition: Adjective. Bursting with vivid splendor and dazzling beauty, like something so stunning it practically glows with magnificence. It’s perfect for describing anything from a vibrant sunset to someone radiating charisma.

Example Sentence: The festival was a resplendent swirl of colorful costumes and twinkling lights, making everyone feel like they’d stepped into a dream.

Origin: From the Latin resplendere, meaning "to shine brightly," entering English in the 15th century to capture things that dazzle the senses.

This word’s so vibrant it practically sparkles! 😊 What do you think of it?
