Word of the Week: Iridescent Definition: Adjective. Displaying a play of shimmering, rainbow-like colors that shift and gleam depending on the angle of light—like the magical sheen on a soap bubble, a hummingbird’s throat, or oil on water. It’s that captivating, ever-changing glow that makes ordinary things look enchanted. Example Sentence: On this frosty January morning, the thin layer of ice on the pond was iridescent, flashing soft pinks, blues, and greens as the sun climbed higher. Origin: From the Latin iris (rainbow) + -escent (becoming or beginning to show), entering English in the early 1800s. It perfectly captures nature’s little color shows! Here’s to spotting iridescent beauty in these crisp winter days—maybe in frost, feathers, or even a puddle! ✨ What’s caught your eye with that shifting shimmer lately? |
