East Longmeadow Firefighters from D Group faced one of the busiest shifts in recent memory on Friday, November 14th, answering an extraordinary 21 calls over a single 24-hour period.

The pace was relentless from the start: ten calls came in during the first three hours alone, followed by another ten over the next nine hours. Crews handled everything from medical emergencies to fire alarms with the professionalism residents have come to expect.

The Fire Department was praised for the effort in a social media post: “A fantastic job by D Group and every member who provided coverage. This is an example of the work that members of this department do every day for our community.”

Mutual aid played a key role in managing the surge. The department extended special thanks to Action Ambulance Service Inc.,
Longmeadow Fire Department, and East Longmeadow Police Department for their rapid response and seamless assistance throughout the day.

While exact call details are not released for privacy reasons, the volume underscores the unpredictable nature of public safety in the 413. Shifts like these test training, equipment, and teamwork—and East Longmeadow’s crews passed with flying colors.
