This serene early-20th-century postcard, dated circa 1905–1924, captures the Hotel Oakwood (later known as the Oakwood Inn) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, during its heyday as a premier Berkshire destination. The elegant Victorian-style building features classic details: a wraparound porch with ornate railings, multiple chimneys, gabled roofs, and a welcoming facade framed by lush lawns, mature trees, blooming flower beds, and carefully tended shrubs. The wide, curving walkway and benches invite guests to relax in the peaceful garden setting, reflecting the era's love for grand summer retreats in the Berkshires. Built in the late 19th century, the hotel served as a popular resort for visitors seeking the region's natural beauty, fresh air, and refined hospitality. It stood as a beloved local landmark for nearly a century before its contents were auctioned in 1974 and the building was razed shortly after.
