City of Springfield Veterans Department Seeks Volunteers for Veterans' Day Cemetery Flagging

Community Encouraged to Honor Veterans by Participating in Flag Placement

The City of Springfield's Department of Veterans' Services is calling on community members to volunteer for the annual flagging of cemeteries in honor of Veterans' Day.

This meaningful tradition involves placing flags on the graves of military veterans across Springfield's publicly owned and maintained cemeteries.

The flagging will commence on Saturday, October 25, and continue through Monday, November 10, 2025.

Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that each veteran's grave is recognized and honored appropriately.

In previous years, the department has relied on groups such as the Springfield Public Schools Reserve Officer Training Corps.

However, with changing circumstances, new volunteers are essential to continue this tradition.

Those interested in participating can reach out to the City of Springfield's Veterans Department at (413) 787-6141.

Engaging in this activity not only pays tribute to the sacrifices made by our veterans but also strengthens community bonds.

Additionally, the city has a lineup of events leading up to Veterans' Day.

On October 18, the Harvest Festival will take place in Downtown Springfield, offering a family-friendly environment with activities like pumpkin picking, face painting, and local vendors.

These events provide an excellent opportunity for residents to come together and celebrate the season while preparing to honor our veterans.

By volunteering for the cemetery flagging and participating in community events, residents can show their appreciation for the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

Let's come together to ensure that their memories are honored and preserved for future generations.
